Early Morning Brush Fire

Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Early Saturday morning, April 14, 2012, the volunteers were summoned to Parkway Drive South for a reported fire of unknown type.  44 Control received eight phone calls from drivers on the Palisades Parkway and Parkway Drive South.  Arriving within four minutes of dispatch 2nd Assistant Chief Pete Byrne advised the volunteers and 44 Control it was a brush fir across the street from 87 Parkway Drive South.  After checking to ensure no electrical lines were involved Chief Byrne directed the first due apparatus, the 11-1750, to come into the scene and use the 1 3/4 hand line.  Byrne had the second due, 11-2000, block traffic at the intersection of Devon and Parkway Drive South and send their crew to the 1750 to assist.  Traffic was also blocked at the intersection of Carlton and Parkway Drive South.  The volunteers used 1000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
