The members of OFD embraced a new training opportunity with thanks to the NJ/NY Volunteer Fire Association at the Bergenfield Fire Training Center. This facility allows fire departments to train under live fire conditions with a classified Class A burn room. The building is designed to simulate a residential home structure, with a garage, living space, bedrooms, and even a roof top porch. Firefighters practiced several evolutions, focusing on forcible entry, primary and secondary search, as well as hoseline deployment and ventilation. Most appreciated was the ability to perform a basement fire evolution, utilizing 11-Tower from the roof entrance to provide water as crews advanced down the stairs under intense heat and fire conditions. The Orangeburg Fire Department thanks the staff at the Bergenfield FTC and is looking forward to our mutual aid drill later in May with our neighboring fire departments. A special thank you as well to our fire commissioners for approving this training.
