As the February 8th snow storm was impacting the area our volunteers were called to NicPak Lane for a fuel leak. While responding 44 Control informed 11-1 that a car had hit a tractor trailer. Control was not sure if the tractor trailer or car was leaking the fuel. Once on the scene Chief Jackson sized up the situation that the tractor trailer's driver side fuel tank was compromised and leaking.
The volunteer firefighters quickly built a containment dyke with speedy dry and kept the fuel in one area.
NYS DEC and EPS Environmental handled the clean up.

Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 the volunteers from Orangeburg and Sparkill worked together to improve their skills on ventilation. Sparkill built a simple yet very effective training prop in the rear of their firehouse. Arriving at 9:30 AM the volunteers drilled to a little past noon. We appreciate Sparkill for reaching out to us for this hands on training event.
The Rockland County Fire Training Center is pleased to announce that the Fire Explorer’s Program and the Youth Academy are accepting members for the 2013 programs. For additional information or to receive an application please contact the Rockland County Fire

On Monday evening, January 14th, the volunteers practiced the techniques and safety precautions of elevator rescues. Lead by Ex-Chief Hugh Duffy, the volunteers received two hours of classroom instruction and then a full scale exercise. A life size mannequin was placed in the elevator and the volunteers had to remove it. Teamwork and safety lead to a successful conclusion and a terrific learning experience. The volunteers also reviewed the different locations and types of elevators within the Orangeburg Fire District.
On Saturday, December 15th, the streets of Orangeburg turned into a Winter Wonderland. The volunteers hosted their annual Holiday Parade and this year was bigger and better than last year. More emergency service and town DPW organizations participated this year and more of our neighbors were on the streets enjoying it. The weather cooperated and everyone seemed to have had a wonderful experience. Mr. and Mrs. Claus enjoyed seeing all of the good little boys and girls and promised to come back again next year. Next years parade will be Saturday, December 14th. SAVE THE DATE……..
At a little past 6PM on Friday, November 23, 20112, the volunteers were summoned to Corporate Drive to assist the Orangetown PD. While they were responding 44 Control informed 11-2, Neil Lynady, that a hybrid TOR Bus was disabled and the tow truck driver wanted their presence due to the high voltage.
Back in September the volunteers trained on the exact bus so they were familiar with the high voltage issues.
On scene and establishing Command, Assistant Chief Lynady directed the crew on the 11-2000 to bring all of their dry chemical extinguishers up to the bus. The Chief also requested the 11-EQ to respond to the scene with additional dry chemical extinguishers. The TOR bus had veered off Olympic Drive and entered the woods that separated Clarins and ICCO Cheese.
Once the firefighters were properly set up the tow truck pulled the bus through the remaining part of the woods and onto the parking lot. Once on stable ground the bus was checked and cleared to be towed away from the scene.
Due to the previous training the cooperation between Rockland County TRIPS / TOR / Coach USA and the volunteers was seamless. This potentially dangerous situation was managed properly and everyone went home safe.

On Friday morning, November 9, 2012, some true hero's returned to Orangeburg and our volunteers were there to greet and thank them. Members of the 668th Engineer Company were returning home after spending 18 months in Afghanistan. As the bus entered their base the veterans saw our beautiful American Flag flying from Sparkill's Ladder Truck. Asst. Chief Neil Lynady stated "this was just a small way for us to show them our gratitude and appreciation for the service they performed."
On Sunday morning, September 23rd, over twenty friends and family members came out to cheer on our brothers and sisters in a fire truck pull to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. Organized by Pete "Little Pete" Byrne our volunteers fielded two teams even though this was our first year participating in this worthwhile event. Proudly wearing the Orangeburg Fire Department Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts the volunteers pulled Pearl River's Antique Ladder Truck across the finish line in very respectful times.
We would like to thank the co-sponsors of the event, the Nanuet High School Wrestling Team and Vision Sports Club, for coming up with this great campaign.
