NewsOrangeburg Volunteers called to assist Tappan FirefightersTuesday, November 16, 2010
Just after 10 PM on Monday, November 15th, Tappan Fire Department was dispatched for a smoke condition on the border with Orangeburg. The "smoke condition" was actually a working fire in the basement of house on the corner of Lowe Lane and South Saint Mary Francis Street.
As Tappan was sending their firefighters into the building to extinguish the fire Tappan's Chief called for Orangeburg to come to the scene as a FAST team. Our members set up on the front lawn of the premises and performed the necessary tasks of making sure the interior firefighters were safe. This included 360's around the exterior of the house, raising of ground ladders to provide second and third means of egress and having the proper equipment and members ready to go in the event of an emergency. Orangeburg Units at the scene 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 and 11-EQ
